Description
Initially, we discovered fruity notes of pineapple, dried mango and sticky apple loaf. These aromas were layered with the scent of fresh ginger, and a newly oiled cricket bat discarded on a breezy Spey riverbank. On the palate, the predominant flavours were curiously red – including cranberries, red wine, rhubarb and gummy strawberries. With water we encountered a waxy sweetness reminiscent of a tuck shop bag of foamy bananas and shrimps, fried eggs and marshmallows. These synthetic flavours were quickly refreshed with tinned fruit salad and juicy red apples swimming in evaporated milk, garnished with a glacé cherry. After 12 years in an ex-bourbon hogshead, this whisky spent the remainder of its maturation in a first fill American oak oloroso hogshead.
