Description
Immediately unmistakeable as this endlessly dependable Islay classic. A big, up front waft of malt vinegar and coal smoke. Then oily chip wrappers, smoked sea salt, warm rock pools and dried seaweed. A tang of engine oil too. Water brought the freshness of pure sea air, brine, pickled onions and preserved lemons. The palate when neat was vivid and wonderfully sharp with lemon juice, seaweed, oysters, Maggi seasoning and a blast of superbly sweet peat smoke. Reduction brought an oilier mouthfeel, tarry rope, creosote, leathery peat smoke, smoked olive oil and pickling brine. Superb, as ever.
